ABOUT ALLISON JOY
I am a neurodivergent clinician providing individual therapy services in downtown Durham. I work primarily with neurodivergent individuals who have/suspect they have ADHD, Autism, and/or OCD and/or present with Anxiety and trauma symptoms. My clients are mostly within the LGBTQ+ community and between the ages of 12-65 yrs old. I facilitate change using my training in multiple evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches. These include Dialectical Behavior Therapy(DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention(ERP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with a firm foundation of Attachment Theory and additional somatic-based practices. I also find it very helpful to integrate aspects of Internal Family Systems(IFS) and Sand Tray as well, along with other role-play techniques as needed. You will be involved in curating treatment that suits how you learn, express and process best.
In sessions I may guide you to feel more connected with your body, practice active mindfulness, and effectively cope with intense emotions; I most likely will teach you tools for more open and authentic communication and help you challenge old negative beliefs while encouraging your actions to be more aligned with your values. EMDR can be helpful for a variety of issues along with past negative or traumatic experiences and you may request EMDR or I will recommend this intervention as needed. I would be honored help you feel more content, confident, and connected with yourself and others.
